Nike Men's NIKE AIR FLIGHT JAB STEP BASKETBALL SHOES 9 (BLACK/WHITE/UNIVERSITY RED) Review

Picked these up at a Nike outlet store during Black Friday when they went for $45. I had initial thoughts of wearing these casually if they didn't perform all that well, as I had no idea how they were as they are not that famous, and there are literally no performance videos that give a nice detailed review.

About me: 5'6" guard, high school

Shoe is light for a high top.

Aesthetics/materials: These things look pretty beastly with the black red and white colorway. With the synthetic upper and rubber outsole, it is a good combination, along with the polyester laces. However, I noticed immediately after pulling them out of the box that the paint could easily be worn off. The pair that I have, after playing in them three times for about 1-2 hrs each, have slight chips of paint where the midsole and outsole come together (the lacing could come apart pretty easily). This is a pretty big negative, as the shoe isn't that durable. Still, better than the worst shoe I've played in.

Traction/mobility: These babies are rocking the dual direction crosspattern traction. Many basketball shoes have them, and it is fine. Some shoes have too much design on the bottom, and it is actually bad for the traction. I had no trouble dodging and stopping and changing directions in this shoe, and the mobility was fine for a guard playing in a high top.

Support/cushioning/protection: As a guard, I normally do not wear high tops, as they restrict mobility. But these shoes do not, and I was fine hooping in these. I did not feel much heel slippage, and the cushioning from rebounds was good. I had no pain after landing from my 35 inch vertical, and felt the max air unit in the heel do its job. I have not played in it long enough to experience any major protection from ankle injuries, however. But I cannot really say anything about ankle injuries, as I hoop in the Jordan CP3 VI and the Jordan Fly Wade 2 for competitive games, both low and mid tops.

Ventilation: I do not have any problems with sweaty feet, but I can feel that there is a bit of a lack of ventilation in this shoe. But if you wear some quality socks such as the Nike Elite Socks, like I used with these, then it is no problem. Those socks are of great quality, even if they are $14 for a pair of socks!

Price/Overall: For $45, this was not bad at all for a basketball shoe by Nike. Of course, there are plenty better shoes out there, but those may cost $100+, ex: Lebron 11 which costs $200, but probably the best shoe that I've played in as a guard. The Nike Jab Step is a good shoe for the price, but I've seen some places online that sell them for $75. For $75, I would get a different shoe, as this is probably not worth it. However, if it is going for cheap, get them for lower range basketball activity, such as middle school tournys, local tournys, or pick up. I would advise getting another shoe for high school or more competitive play.

I would give these 80 - 85/100

EDIT: After hooping in these for about a month now, they have kept their durability. I only hoop in these for not very serious games, and I wear these casually. I would not use these competitively, they are not an overall best basketball shoe.
