Trail Shoes Vs. Running Shoes - Yahoo Voices - voices.yahoo.comIn an article I just wrote called, 5 Important Things to Know About Trail Running, I briefly discussed the difference between trail shoes and running shoes. I thought I'd write another article to go a little more detailed on this subject, so you, your reader, will get a better understanding of what the main difference actually are.
Materials
One with the main differences is incorporated in the type of materials that are used to make each type of shoe. Running shoes are constructed of thin, lightweight materials. They're developed for speed and stability, however they are not designed to last. Trail shoes are constructed with much thicker, heavier materials. Speed just isn't as important for trail running, so they're produced for ruggedness and durability. Trail shoes in general are made to offer your feet more protection. Some trail shoes are constructed of waterproof materials, too.
Ergonomics
Trail shoes have thicker soles and routinely have some kind of rubber grips across the soles to help your feet stick to the unpredictable terrain of a dirt trail. Although they tend to be heavier than athletic shoes, they may be designed to breather better.
